Every year on 21 September, we mark the International Day of Peace. It invites us to reflect not only on peace around the world, but also on the environment we create around us: within our families, communities, schools, workplaces and society as a whole. <\/p>\n\n

For a child, peace is not an abstract idea. It means being able to grow up in a safe environment, stay close to their family and trust that help will be available when needed. It means having the freedom to learn, play, build relationships and develop without fear or uncertainty. <\/p>\n\n

On the International Day of Peace, we want to highlight the importance of building a world in which every child feels safe, heard and supported.<\/p>\n\n

What Does Peace Mean to a Child?<\/h2>\n\n

A child\u2019s sense of safety begins with the people around them. The presence of family, attentive adults and a stable daily routine helps children develop trust in the world around them. Knowing that their needs are noticed and that support will be available during difficult moments is essential to their emotional and physical well-being. <\/p>\n\n

For a child, peace also means having access to education, healthcare and timely support. Health concerns and prolonged uncertainty about a child\u2019s condition can cause anxiety for the entire family. The situation becomes especially difficult when the required medical specialist is located far from home, waiting times are long or the family cannot afford travel and other related expenses. <\/p>\n\n

Accessible healthcare is therefore closely connected to a child\u2019s and family\u2019s sense of security. A timely consultation can provide answers, help identify potential health concerns at an early stage and reduce parents\u2019 anxiety about their child\u2019s health. <\/p>\n\n

Bringing Care Closer to Families<\/h2>\n\n

The everyday work of Ronald McDonald M\u0101ja Latvij\u0101 is part of this commitment to care. The Care Mobile travels to different locations across Latvia, making free specialist medical consultations available closer to children\u2019s homes and families. <\/p>\n\n

Access to certain medical specialists remains limited in many regions of Latvia. To attend a consultation, families may need to travel long distances, take time away from work or school and cover additional expenses. In some cases, these practical barriers result in a medical appointment being postponed. <\/p>\n\n

During the Children’s Care Mobile visits, children can receive the specialist consultations they need free of charge in their own town or municipality. This brings healthcare closer to children and reduces the practical obstacles that many families face in their everyday lives. <\/p>\n\n

Each consultation provides an opportunity to assess a child\u2019s health in a timely manner, offer parents clear recommendations and, when necessary, advise them to seek further examinations or begin treatment. It also gives families greater clarity and confidence about the next steps. <\/p>\n\n

Peace Begins with the Way We Treat One Another<\/h2>\n\n

The International Day of Peace also encourages us to consider how we treat one another every day. A peaceful environment is built through respectful communication, a willingness to listen and a readiness to help. <\/p>\n\n

Children first learn these values within their families and immediate communities. The example set by adults shows them how to resolve disagreements, respect differences and notice when someone needs support. Even small actions can strengthen a child\u2019s sense of security: a conversation, genuine attention, a helping hand or the opportunity to express their thoughts without fear of being judged. <\/p>\n\n

Peace also means ensuring that a child\u2019s needs are not overlooked because of where they live, their family\u2019s financial circumstances or other factors beyond their control. Every child should know that their health, well-being and future matter. <\/p>\n\n

A Shared Responsibility for Children\u2019s Future<\/h2>\n\n

A safe and supportive environment for children does not emerge on its own. It is created by families, teachers, healthcare professionals, municipalities, non-governmental organisations, businesses, donors and every member of society who chooses to become involved. <\/p>\n\n

The work of the Care Mobile is made possible by people and organisations that recognise the importance of accessible healthcare. Support from donors and partners helps fund visits, the work of medical specialists, equipment and other resources required to bring consultations to children in different parts of Latvia. <\/p>\n\n

Every contribution helps create an environment in which families feel better supported and children can receive the care they need at the right time.<\/p>\n\n

The International Day of Peace reminds us that peace begins with caring for the people around us. It begins with our willingness to listen, notice and help. It grows through our shared commitment to creating a world in which every child can grow up safely, remain close to their family and receive the support they need. <\/p>\n\n
