On Saturday, August 22, the Ronald McDonald Māja Latvijā team participated in the event “Back to School! SĀGA x Decathlon,” organized by SĀGA x Decathlon. With the new school year approaching, the event brought together families with children, offering visitors active, educational, and exciting activities.
Several activity stations were set up at the SĀGA x Decathlon event venue. By visiting them and completing the assigned tasks, participants could collect stamps and then receive an event prize. The Ronald McDonald Māja Latvijā was also one of the stops along the activity-station route.
Our team prepared three games where participants could test their agility, knowledge, ingenuity, and luck. Everyone could choose the task that best suited them and take part in a friendly competition with family members, friends, or members of our team.
One of the activities was putting together the Care Mobile puzzle. Participants had to find the correct spot for each puzzle piece and create a complete picture of the Care Mobile as quickly as possible. This game tested their attention, patience, and ability to see the big picture, while also allowing the children to get to know the Care Mobile and it’s mission better.
In the second activity, children and adults had the chance to play the well-known game “Rock, Paper, Scissors.” Although the rules of the game are very simple, the outcome is never predictable. It required quick reactions, luck, and the ability to surprise your opponent. The game brought lots of smiles and enthusiastic repeated attempts.
In the third activity, participants had to answer trivia questions about one of the subjects in school. Everyone could choose the topic they were most familiar with and test not only their knowledge but also their ability to think quickly and find the right answer. This activity symbolically helped participants get in the mood for the new school year and reminded them that learning can also be an exciting game.
A special guest at the event was Kaspars Daugaviņš, former captain of the Latvian national hockey team and Ronald McDonald Māja Latvijā supporter. During the event, visitors had the opportunity to challenge Kaspars in one of the games we had prepared. Participants could compete against him, test their luck and wits, and take photos with him. Kaspars’ presence created a joyful and energetic atmosphere and encouraged the children to take on the challenge.
Special prizes also awaited the winners of our games. They could choose between our special red-and-white socks or one of our stuffed animals: Mimi the alpaca or Frīdis the rabbit. The other participants in the activities received special pens from Ronald McDonald Māja Latvijā, which will come in handy during the new school year and serve as a reminder of the joyful day we spent together.
Participating in the event was also a great opportunity to introduce families to the Care Mobile’s work. While the children were playing games, we told the parents about our mission and the free consultations with medical specialists that are provided to children in various regions of Latvia, closer to where they live. Timely health checkups are essential for a child to learn successfully, actively participate in daily activities, and feel well.
We would like to sincerely thank the SĀGA shopping centre and Decathlon for the opportunity to be part of the event “Back to School! SĀGA x Decathlon.” Thank you to Kaspars Daugaviņš for his responsiveness and involvement, as well as to everyone who visited our station, participated in the games, and took an interest in our Care Mobile’s work.
